It starts with Chris and Ben, who have been advising clients for over 25 years as both financial advisers and mortgage brokers. Working collaboratively with their team, they’ve had thousands of conversations and settled over $1b in home loans, empowering thousands of families towards living a life empowered by great property decisions. Previously Weathful, Chris, Ben and the team decided, in 2023, to rebrand and are now ‘Blusk’ – a name that better encapsulates the feeling they achieve for their clients.
Chris Bates
Chris started as a Financial Adviser back in 2007 and sold his Financial Advice business in 2020. Over the past 9 years, Chris has grown into one of Australia’s top Mortgage Brokers and is passionate about taking the product providing industry to a trusted advice based profession.
He is known for regularly airing his views on sound property investing on both LinkedIn and popular property industry podcasts The Elephant in the Room and Australian Property Podcast. You can find him on LinkedIn here.
Chris’ big loves in life are: wife Melanie, daughter Eloise and son Thomas; travelling in search of both wildlife and wilderness; Liverpool FC; sunrise swims in Sydney’s Northern Beaches; and their two Russian blues – Smokey and Leo.
Ben Sum
Ben is the techy one, more likely to be found crunching the numbers with his beady eye for detail into the early hours. He’s developed over 10,000 financial plans in his career to date, to deliver results that fulfil dreams. You can find him on LinkedIn here.
Ben joined Blusk in 2018 as business partner to Chris, and was the key ingredient behind Blusk’s ability to grow exponentially since.
Ben’s big loves in life are: wife May, daughters Lana and Emilia; exploring the wonders of South East Queensland; staying fit and healthy; lifelong learnings and their Beagle – Bruno
Awards
Blusk has been fortunate to have been able to advise many families over the past 9 years with over $1b in home loans settled and winning numerous awards in the process.
Blusk is currently ranked 5th in MPA Top 100 Annual Broker List out of 19,000+ brokers in Australia. Blusk moved up from 11th in 2021 and ranked 9th 2020. This is the pinnacle for Mortgage Brokers and is based on the total number of loans settled.
In 2023, Chris won both Residential Broker of the Year award and Broker of The Year Award at The Adviser NSW Better Business and also at the national Australian Broking Awards. Chris and Blusk were Finalists in both Brokerage and Broker of the Year at both the MFAA Excellence Awards, and are Finalists at the yet to be awarded Australian Mortgage Awards.
In 2022, Blusk won the Connective Broker of the year award. Connective is arguably Australia’s leading and largest Mortgage Aggregator. Chris has been finalist for the past three years.
Chris was #1 with most loans settled in NSW and #2 nationally out of over 3,500 brokers. .
